The opening round of the Ginetta Junior Championship was held at Brands Hatch last weekend with Seb Priaulx showing his potential with excellent qualifying pace that left the debutant 4th on the grid for the season opener, missing out on would have been a historic Pole Position by only 0.240s.

The format for each event this year sees a sole qualifying session determine the grid for race one with the race 2 grid set by the finishing positions in the first encounter.

Despite the strong showing in qualifying, Seb was demoted to the back of the grid for race two after receiving a drive through penalty for moving at the start before the lights went out, nevertheless he drove well picking his way through to 18th at the flag, gaining valuable race experience in the process.

Race 2 meant a 9th row start but just as in the first encounter Seb was able to stay out of trouble in the opening laps eventually finishing 13th after running as high as 10th. Important to note was his pace which had it not been for the poor starting position could easily have seen him fighting for the top 6.

In the championship young Priaulx heads to round two at Donington Park on the 17th April with 11 points and the confidence that he can run much nearer the front next time out.
