After a strong team performance in qualifying today’s European Superstock race left the VFT Racing team with only one finisher from three starters as both Stefano Casaolotti and Christopher Gobbi crashed out of what could have been point scoring rides.
The team’s other rider Paolo Giacomini narrowly missed out on his first championship point after a fighting ride from 31st on the grid to 18th at the flag, improving his lap times by over a second in the process.
Casalotti and Gobbi had started 7th and 15th on the grid respectively before both riders were forced to retire, Casalotti crashing spectacularly at turn six on the opening lap.
Thankfully both riders are unhurt and will be back to fight alongside Giacomini at Portimao in Portugal in a fortnight.
Paolo Giacomini – 18th: “I am happy with today’s race. I improved my times by a second over qualifying and wasn’t too far from the top 15 and my first championship point. This morning I broke the bike so the team worked hard to fix it but I had to ride without a steering damper. It was a hard race but a positive step forward for me and I am looking forward to the next race in Portugal.”
GIACOMINI PRESENTE SUL CIRCUITO DI MISANO INSIEME AL VFT RACING TEAM
Dopo un’incisiva performance nelle fasi di qualifica dell’European Superstock solo una pilota del Team VFT Racing ha terminato la corsa di oggi, visto che Stefano Casalotti e Christopher Gobbi sono caduti mentre combattevano per la zona punti.
L’altro rider del Team Paolo Giacomini ha mancato di poco il suo primo punto in Campionato, dopo una gara combattuta dalla 31° posizione fino alla 18° conquistata sotto la bandiera a scacchi, migliorando il proprio tempo sul giro di un secondo.
Casalotti e Gobbi sono partiti rispettivamente dalla 7° e 15° posizione in griglia ma entrambi i piloti non hanno potuto completare la gara, con Casalotti che si è reso autore di una spettacolare caduta alla curva 6 sul giro al giro di apertura. Fortunatamente entrambi i rider non hanno riportato ferite e saranno al fianco di Giacomini per la gara di Portimao tra due settimane.
Paolo Giacomini 18°: “Sono soddisfatto dalla gara di oggi. Ho migliorato il mio tempo di un secondo dalle qualifiche e non ero troppo lontano dalla top 15 e dal mio primo punto in campionato. Questa mattina ho rotto la moto così il team ha dovuto lavorare duro per sistemare la moto e ho dovuto guidare senza un ammortizzatore di sterzo. È stata una gara difficile ma al contempo è stato un passo in avanti decisivo per me e non vedo l’ora di essere in Portogallo per la prossima gara.”
