Kade Verwey got his 2018 British Junior Supersport Championship campaign off to a flying start, finishing 3rd in Saturday’s season opener at Donington Park before racing to a debut win this afternoon.

Qualifying on the second row of the grid, the #7 rider made an impressive start leading the opening 7 lap encounter, fending off the attentions of several other riders including his brother and team mate Luke, before eventually finishing 3rd.

Narrowly missing out on the win by 0.110s Kade went two better in today’s second race to leave Donington Park just four points from the lead of the championship.

Once again part of a four rider group that eased away at the front, the XG Racing rider traded fastest laps with his rivals before making his move to lead just after half race distance. Controlling the pace, he rode maturely to win his first British Junior Supersport race by 0.099s, as the top three crossed the line together.

The scheduled third race was cancelled due to earlier bad weather and will be run as part of a future event.

Kade Verwey – 3rd & 1st: “After a small crash in FP1 what a weekend. I built up slowly in qualifying and ended up on the second row but felt good and was sure I could put in a good first race. I made a good start which surprised me a bit as I usually take a bit of time to get in the groove but it’s what I needed and it put me in contention from the off. I was leading every lap apart from the last one. It was really good battling and really close with quite a lot of contact but that’s racing. It was a good start to the year and gave me a lot of confidence for today. I’m mega happy with the win and with yesterday’s result it’s been an a almost perfect weekend. I gambled on wet tyres and I managed to use it to my advantage. It’s a shame Luke crashed out near the end as I think we both could have been on the podium but he will bounce back. Looking ahead there’s still a long way to go but I’m second in the championship and only four points from the lead so it’s all to play for. Big thanks to the team and to everyone for the support.”
