New Zealand’s Jake Lewis arrived in France for the penultimate round of the PATA European Junior Cup with a slender 4 point advantage at the top of the standings.

The flying Kiwi who has 3 podium finishes to his name, including victories in Aragon, Spain and at Silverstone, UK, was in confident mood as the riders ventured out onto the Magny-Cours circuit for their opening Free Practice session.

Lewis, who has matured throughout the season, rode sensibly in the early stages before setting some impressive times, ending the session 5th but more importantly several places ahead of his nearest championship rival Robin Anne.

The conditions today were less than ideal, with a number of corners on the technical French circuit still damp from the earlier rain shower.

Tomorrow’s all important qualifying session is scheduled to take place at 1330 local time and judging by today’s final timesheet, Lewis is well placed to challenge for Pole Position.
